Former senior official investigated for serious violations of discipline and laws
Wang Wenling, former deputy head of the National Council for Social Security Fund and a former member of its leading Party members group, has been investigated for serious violations of discipline and laws, the country's top anti-graft bodies said on Monday.
With the approval of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision launched an investigation into Wang.
The investigation found that Wang had failed to fulfill his responsibilities in enforcing strict Party self-governance, privately possessed and read books containing serious political issues, resisted organizational scrutiny and engaged in superstitious activities.
He accepted gifts, cash and shopping cards in violation of regulations, as well as banquets and travel arrangements that could affect the impartial performance of his official duties. He also improperly frequented private clubs.
Wang abused his position to benefit others in recruitment and promotion, engaged in business activities in violation of regulations, and had others pay expenses that he should have covered himself. He also improperly interfered in and intervened in market economic activities, the investigation showed.
The investigation further found that Wang led an extravagant lifestyle, indulged in pleasure and pursued vulgar interests. He abused public power for personal gain, engaging in extensive power-for-money deals. Taking advantage of his position, he helped others in corporate restructuring, financing and stock market listings, as well as securing employment at financial institutions, in exchange for illegally accepting large sums of money and other valuables.
The commissions said Wang seriously violated the Party's political, organizational, integrity, work and life disciplines. His conduct constituted serious violations of duty-related laws and was suspected of bribery.
The investigation said Wang had failed to restrain himself or stop his misconduct after the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012. Given the serious nature and adverse impact of his violations, he should be dealt with severely.
With the approval of the CPC Central Committee, the CCDI decided to expel Wang from the Party based on relevant regulations. The NCS also decided to dismiss him from public office.
Wang's illicit gains will be confiscated, and his suspected criminal offenses will be referred to procuratorial authorities for review and prosecution in accordance with the law. The assets involved will be transferred along with the case, the statement said.
