Yellow River Delta welcomes autumn colors, migratory birds
In October, vast stretches of wetlands in the Yellow River Delta in Dongying, East China's Shandong province, turn a striking shade of red.
Located in the Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve, the wetlands are known for their vibrant Suaeda salsa. This salt-tolerant pioneer plant thrives in saline-alkali soils and gradually changes from green to red as autumn progresses, adding vivid color to the coastal landscape. Its ability to grow in such conditions also makes it an important part of the wetland ecosystem.
The wetlands provide vital habitats for a wide range of bird species, including red-crowned cranes, oriental storks and swans. Every year, large numbers of migratory birds stop here to feed and rest, while some stay through the winter.
