A recent cultural workshop at Isnelle Amelin Vocational High School on Reunion, a French island in the Indian Ocean, introduced students to a different world: how to fold a piece of paper into a sewing kit and how small needles, threads and other tools can transform fabric into exquisite ornaments for traditional Chinese attire.

The workshop was part of a series of activities accompanying the opening of an exhibition at the Lantern Cultural Space in Saint-Andre on the island.

After touring Sweden and the Netherlands, Chinese Clothing Heritage Between Tradition and Modernity brings the sophistication of traditional Chinese dress to Reunion, exploring how its underlying philosophy continues to inspire contemporary designers.
