The Carp Brook Scenic Area in Zhouning county, East China's Fujian province, came alive with poetry, music and light displays on Sept 25 as the Mid-Autumn Festival fair opened.
Centered on poetry, wine and traditional performances, the event brings the celebrated poets Li Bai of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and Su Shi of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) to life through interactive activities. Visitors can collect stamps on a special card by participating in poetry recitation, pitch-pot, lantern riddles and other games. Those who collect six stamps can exchange them for Mid-Autumn keepsakes.
At the opening ceremony, guests lit fish-shaped lanterns to launch the event. A light show followed, along with performances featuring traditional Chinese music and light-sword dances. Actors portraying Li Bai, Su Shi and other characters interacted with visitors at various locations across the site.
The fair also features giant moon installations, poetry-themed light displays and photo spots. Traditional rod-puppet performances are being staged, while visitors can take part in hands-on experiences such as bottle painting and bookmark calligraphy.
Running through Sept 27, the event combines Mid-Autumn traditions with the natural scenery of Carp Brook drawing on its 800-year-old fish-protection culture to create a distinctive nighttime cultural tourism experience in Zhouning.
