Former Shenzhen mayor Qin Weizhong under investigation

Qin Weizhong, a senior official with the top legislature of Guangdong province and former mayor of Shenzhen, is being investigated for suspected serious violations of Party discipline and national laws, China's top anti-corruption watchdogs announced on Monday.

The announcement was released online by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision. No further details were disclosed.

Public information shows that Qin, 55, a native of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, began his career in July 1996 and joined the CPC in June 2001.

After graduating from Tsinghua University, Qin worked in the country's chemical and petroleum sectors for decades.

In March 2019, he became deputy governor of Guangdong province. In May 2021, he was appointed mayor of Shenzhen, Guangdong province.

In August 2026, Qin began serving as a member of the Leading Party Members Group of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, the province's top legislative body.
