Orthopaedic Surgery included in China's list of leading science journals

Orthopaedic Surgery, published by Tianjin Hospital, has been included in China's list of the world's leading science and technology journals, released Saturday at the 2026 Pujiang Innovation Forum in Shanghai.

The list, compiled by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China with partner research institutions, selected 6,132 journals from 55 countries and regions and covered 23 languages. Of these, 353 are Chinese, accounting for 5.8 percent. The selection framework evaluates journals on four dimensions—academic organizational capacity, academic leadership, academic influence, and social influence—supported by nine indicators. It aims to build a fair, multilingual evaluation system for global scholarly publications.

Launched in 2009, Orthopaedic Surgery is China's first orthopedic journal indexed by the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE). Its editor-in-chief is Professor Ma Xinlong, the incoming chairman of the Chinese Orthopaedic Association. The journal is indexed in MEDLINE, Scopus, and SCIE, and publishes clinical and applied-basic research spanning spinal surgery, orthopedic trauma, joint surgery, bone oncology, minimally invasive treatment, and digital and intelligent orthopedics.

The journal reports a 2025 Journal Impact Factor of 2.5 (JCR Q2) and a CiteScore of 4.6, ranking Q1 in the Scopus subject categories of Surgery and Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.

According to Orthopaedic Surgery's editorial team, the journal's inclusion on the list speaks to its academic rigor and international influence. Moving forward, the journal pledges to maintain its academic standards and deepen cooperation with orthopedic experts worldwide to push forward disciplinary innovation.

The journal has announced its priority topics for 2026 and is calling for submissions on robotics and computer-assisted surgery, osteoarthritis treatment, osteoporosis fractures, hip and knee preservation surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery, periprosthetic joint infection, and cartilage repair and ACL reconstruction.
