Yang Jinlong, president of Tongji University and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said at the ceremony that cooperation with Italy is key to the university's strategy for international exchange and cooperation. The establishment of the college would build a solid platform for the two nations to foster new friendships and enhance cooperation in education, science and technology, culture and industries.

Alberto Giuseppe Sapora, vice-rector for international affairs at Polytechnic University of Turin, noted that over the past 20 years, the friendly cooperation between the two universities has continued to deepen, expanding from dual-degree programs to the joint establishment of the college. They expect to build the college into a flagship platform for Sino-European cooperation in engineering education.

Tongji University's collaboration with Italy began in the 1980s through academic exchanges between professors from both countries. Since its establishment in 2006, the Sino-Italian Campus has engaged in extensive and in-depth cooperation with 29 renowned Italian universities across more than 30 disciplines, including architecture, industrial design and automation. It has cumulatively cultivated nearly 4,000 outstanding professionals active across various sectors in both nations.
