A 35-meter-long landscape painting unfolds across the arched wall of the No 1 exhibition hall at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing. Created collaboratively by a dozen painters, the work offers a panoramic view of Xiamen, the seafront city in Fujian province — its lush hills and gardens, lakes, high-rises, and Kulangsu (Gulangyu Island), a UNESCO World Heritage site, along with its historical buildings. The work connects Xiamen's past and present, showing the harmony between nature and human activity.

The painting is the centerpiece of the ongoing exhibition Spring Colors of a City, Flower Blossoms over Decades, which celebrates the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Xiamen Special Economic Zone. The exhibition runs until Aug 26.
