The event advances a bilateral consensus to hold more Made in Russia exhibitions across the country, reached at the 30th regular meeting between Chinese and Russian prime ministers. It also coincides with the 30th anniversary of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation.

Tianjin's trade with Russia reached 16.65 billion yuan ($2.47 billion) last year, up by double digits, according to the Tianjin Bureau of Commerce. Exports to Russia topped 10 billion yuan for the first time, while imports rose by more than 50 percent.

Olympic figure skating champion Anna Shcherbakova was named an ambassador for the Made in Russia brand and held autograph sessions during the festival, which also features ballet, opera, and Russian folk music.
