One dead, two missing after mudslide hits Zhashui county in Shaanxi

From 7 am to 3 pm on Wednesday, Zhashui experienced heavy to torrential rainfall, with some areas hit by exceptionally heavy downpours, according to China Central Television.

The maximum rainfall recorded at a geological monitoring station reached 135.4 millimeters, while the highest hourly rainfall intensity reached 49.4 millimeters, the report added.

Local authorities activated a Level III flood control emergency response and issued a yellow rainstorm warning, the third-highest level in China's four-tier warning system, according to the report.

More than 13,000 people from 5,603 households have been relocated to safe areas, the report added.

Tongguan county in Weinan, Shaanxi province, was also affected by persistent heavy rainfall, which triggered a landslide on Wednesday night. The disaster caused a residential house to collapse along with the slope, leaving one person missing, according to another Xinhua report on Thursday. Local authorities quickly launched an emergency response, carried out search and rescue efforts for the missing person, and evacuated 405 nearby residents overnight.
