One dead, two missing after mudslide hits Zhashui county in Shaanxi

One person has been confirmed dead, and two others remain missing after days of rainfall battered Zhashui county in Shangluo, Shaanxi province, Xinhua News Agency reported on Thursday.

The victims were residents of a household in Xingping township. They were buried by a sudden mudslide while clearing water near their house on Wednesday, according to Zhashui's flood control headquarters.

From July 30 to Wednesday, Zhashui experienced continuous heavy rainfall, with three rivers in the county recording five flood peaks that exceeded their warning levels. The maximum accumulated rainfall reached 321.4 millimeters, according to Xinhua.

Preliminary statistics showed that as of Thursday, the flooding had affected 9,901 people from 3,718 households in Zhashui.

In Xingping township, 38 sections of river embankments totaling 16.2 kilometers were damaged, 29 road collapses occurred, 15 houses belonging to nine households were damaged, 44 hectares of farmland were affected, 15 greenhouses at family farms were flooded, and three livestock farms suffered losses.
