Guangdong signs first-ever media partnership with Samoan broadcaster

Guangdong province signed a letter of intent with Samoa's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on Tuesday to develop a media partnership and advance cultural exchanges and cooperation.

The agreement is the first-ever media collaboration between Guangdong Radio and Television and a Samoan television broadcaster. It calls for both sides to carry out in-depth cooperation in program exchange, co-production, and personnel exchanges and visits.

Additionally, Samoan audiences will soon be able to watch Chinese productions, including China Theater and Canton Today, on their home screens.

The signing ceremony was an agenda item of the Guangdong cultural delegation's visit to Samoa and is considered one of the important outcomes of the 2026 Charming China (Guangdong): Lingnan Culture Travels to the South Pacific program.

During the ceremony, dual photo and product exhibitions were featured. The Shenzhen-produced film Dear You also made its Samoa premiere.

Chinese Ambassador to Samoa Fei Mingxing reviewed the historical ties between the two sides and thanked Guangdong for its contributions to China-Samoa friendship. "China is ready to deepen exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations with Samoa to enable the China-Samoa community with a shared future to make steady and sustained progress," said Fei.

Deng Hong, deputy director of Guangdong's information office, said the province is ready to innovate and expand exchanges and cooperation with Samoa in culture, journalism, and other fields to serve the growth of bilateral relations.

For years, Guangdong Radio and Television has partnered with television media across the South Pacific region. Programs have aired in multiple South Pacific island countries.

This year marks the 51st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Samoa.
