China claims team title as 67th International Mathematical Olympiad concludes in Shanghai

The closing ceremony of the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad was held at the auditorium of Shanghai High School on Monday, wrapping up the 12-day premier global youth mathematics event.

Bringing together young mathematical talents from over 120 countries and regions worldwide, this year's competition saw the Chinese team secure first place in the overall team rankings, with all six of its contestants winning gold medals.

During the event, young participants from across the globe not only competed head-to-head and exchanged mathematical expertise, but also gained first-hand experience of Shanghai's urban landscape and the profound heritage of Chinese culture through a series of exchange programs organized by the event committee.

According to official award results, the Olympiad awarded 55 gold medals, 105 silver medals and 189 bronze medals, while 141 contestants received honorable mentions. The United States took second place in the team standings, followed by Russia in third and Singapore in fourth.

Liu Ruochuan, vice-president of the Chinese Mathematical Society, noted that competition results are not the end of mathematical exploration. He encouraged young talents to retain curiosity and perseverance, cherish friendships forged at the event, and make steady progress in mathematical research.
