The long list of setbacks facing the Mingzhu No 7 grew even longer on Tuesday, when the luxury cruise vessel tilted at a dock in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province.
The 200-million-yuan ($29.6 million) ship, which famously struck the Wenzhou Bridge during its 2012 launch and was later relocated amid complaints from nearby residents, had sat idle for years due to financial and operational difficulties.
On Wednesday, Wenzhou Mingzhu Yacht Co issued a statement explaining that the tilting occurred during high tide. The company activated its emergency response plan, and relevant authorities arrived to manage the situation.
A detailed investigation into the cause is currently underway. Staff has confirmed that nobody was hurt during the incident.
