Massive waves expected as Typhoon Bavi approaches southeastern China
China's national marine forecast center on Friday issued a red alert for massive waves and a blue alert for storm surges, as Typhoon Bavi approaches southeastern China.
In the nation's four-tier warning system, red represents the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

Along the coast, the nearshore areas of Zhejiang province and the northern parts of Fujian province are forecast to be hit by waves of five to seven meters, and in southern Fujian, waves of three to four meters are expected, while Shanghai's nearshore waters will see 2.5 to 3.5 meters of swells.
The nearshore areas of southern Jiangsu province will experience waves of two to three meters.
In addition, coastal areas from Ningbo in Zhejiang to Zhangzhou in Fujian are expected to see storm surge heights of 50 to 120 centimeters above normal tidal levels during this period.
Latest forecast issued by Chinese meteorologists on Friday morning shows that Bavi will make landfall on Saturday evening along the coast between Fuqing in Fujian province and Wenling in Zhejiang province.
