More central flood relief supplies sent to Guangxi as rescue efforts intensify
Central government authorities have dispatched 36,000 flood-control items — including woven bags, composite fabrics, metal cages and rubber boats — to the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, along with 40,000 relief supplies such as emergency food, lighting equipment, rain gear and moisture-proof mats coordinated through public-private partnerships.
An earlier batch of 160,000 centrally allocated relief supplies has already arrived in disaster-hit areas of Guangxi.
Rescue forces have also been deployed on a large scale. A total of 1,372 firefighters, supported by 270 vehicles and 140 boats, are carrying out rescue operations in Guangxi. They have rescued 137 trapped people and evacuated 1,058 others from areas at risk. Meanwhile, another 2,200 engineering personnel from State-owned enterprises are conducting road clearance, embankment reinforcement and resident evacuation.
The Office of the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters and the Ministry of Emergency Management continued directing flood-relief operations in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Hubei and Gansu provinces on Tuesday, adjusting response measures in real time as conditions evolved.
The office maintained a Level II emergency response for Guangxi. The National Commission for Disaster Reduction activated Level IV emergency responses for Hubei and Gansu while maintaining the same level for Guangxi, and dispatched an additional working group to Hubei to guide disaster-relief efforts. The Ministry of Emergency Management also initiated a Level IV geological disaster emergency response for Gansu while maintaining its Level III response for Guangxi.
China has a four-tier emergency response system, with Level I being the highest.
A joint working group from the Ministry of Emergency Management and the Ministry of Water Resources arrived in Hengzhou, Nanning, on Tuesday evening to oversee search and rescue, evacuation efforts and reservoir safety measures. The team visited the front line in Yunbiao township, held on-site coordination meetings with regional and municipal officials, and stressed the need to put people's lives first and minimize casualties during the critical stage of flood response.
The working group emphasized that, with Guangxi in a critical period of flood prevention and disaster relief, all efforts must adhere to the principle of "people first, life first" to ensure public safety and minimize losses to the greatest extent possible.
