Vice-premier emphasizes high-quality development in Xinjiang
Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang has stressed the importance of fully implementing the Party's guidelines for governing the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region in the new era and accelerating the high-quality economic and social development of the autonomous region.
Ding made the remarks during an inspection tour in Xinjiang on Thursday and Friday.
He visited the China-Europe freight train assembly center in Urumqi, the capital of the autonomous region, where he learned about Xinjiang's efforts to build itself into the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt.
He noted that the China-Europe freight train services have shaped a new landscape for international transport between Asia and Europe, presenting significant opportunities for Xinjiang's development.
Ding emphasized leveraging Xinjiang's geographical advantages to deepen economic and trade cooperation with neighboring countries, and called for efforts to build a golden passage between Asia and Europe and a gateway for opening-up to the West.
He underlined the need to actively develop multimodal transport, enhance digital and intelligent empowerment, and ensure the safe, stable, and smooth operation of the China-Europe freight train services.
At the energy big data center of State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Co, Ding learned about energy supply and the transmission of electricity from Xinjiang to other regions. He highlighted the need to solidly advance the construction of a national strategic base for energy, and scientifically plan the new energy development and the channels for transmitting electricity from Xinjiang to other regions.
During his visit to Xinjiang Bayi Iron and Steel Co, Ding focused on energy conservation and carbon reduction in key areas. He emphasized that achieving the goals for carbon peak and carbon neutrality is a major national strategic decision, urging increased efforts in the research and promotion of advanced technologies to facilitate the green transformation of industrial development.
Ding also visited Xinjiang University and Xinjiang Industry Technical College to learn about the development of higher education in the autonomous region.
