The 2026 Beijing division final of the "Co-Making the Future" China-US Youth Maker Competition concluded on June 14, showcasing a vibrant cross-border innovation ecosystem and a growing emphasis on the development of diverse talent.

Organized by the Ministry of Education of China and recognized as a key China-US people-to-people exchange program, the competition attracted 258 teams and 1,199 participants from 72 institutions, setting a record.

This year also marked the introduction of a dedicated vocational education track, highlighting the rising role of applied technical talent alongside traditional academic pathways.

Across the competition, young innovators leveraged artificial intelligence, embodying intelligence and smart systems to address real-world challenges. Projects spanned AI healthcare, intelligent transportation, aerospace communication, emergency response, and cultural innovation.

Vocational education teams stood out for their strong applied engineering capabilities, particularly in industrial robotics calibration, rail transit inspection, and construction safety monitoring — demonstrating innovation quality on par with university-level projects.

This year saw a record of three China-US joint teams, reflecting deeper cross-cultural cooperation in youth innovation. The judging panel, composed of academics, industry experts and corporate representatives, evaluated projects based on technological innovation, real-world application, social value, and market potential.

A total of 48 projects received awards, including 30 in the higher education track and 18 in the vocational education track. Five first prizes in the main track and three in the vocational track were awarded in cutting-edge fields, such as biomedical technology, smart healthcare, robotics, cultural tech, and transportation systems.

All first-prize teams from the Beijing division will advance directly to the national finals in Shanghai.

Organizers emphasized that the competition is not only an innovation showcase but also a platform promoting inclusive talent development. By integrating vocational and academic tracks, the event highlights the growing convergence of industry and education in shaping future-ready innovators.
