Director Zhang Tong sees the story's core as universal: "The clash between unreachable dreams and an unsettled present speaks to audiences across generations."

The production draws on this classic to spark reflection on today's challenges, blending realism with poetic stage design. Interiors reflect everyday life, while outdoor elements suggest distant horizons. A symbolic apple tree represents love, hope and vitality, while light flowing through a hollow wooden set poetically evokes the world beyond the horizon.

The ensemble of seven actors mixes youthful energy and seasoned experience. Young performers hone their craft while veteran actors explore the depths of O'Neill's text.

"We focus on restraint rather than melodrama," Zhang says, "mirroring the subtle truths of human relationships."

The actors channel their personal experiences to breathe authenticity into their characters' inner lives.
