Science forum to boost GBA as tech innovation hub

The Greater Bay Area Science Forum 2025 will be staged in Guangdong province and the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao between Dec 6 and 8 in a bid to advance the building of an international scientific and technological innovation hub in the region.

The opening ceremony will take place at the Nansha International Convention and Exhibition Center in Guangzhou on Dec 7, gathering high-ranking officials and prominent representatives from the business and academic fields from home and abroad, said Guo Yile, deputy secretary-general of the Guangdong provincial government.

Sub-forums will be held in Hong Kong, Macao, and Guangdong's Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Yangjiang, and Huizhou, focusing on emerging and future industry technologies, she said at a news conference in Guangzhou on Wednesday.

According to Yang Jun, deputy director of the Guangdong provincial department of science and technology, Guangdong is devoted to deepening the connection and integration with Hong Kong and Macao in scientific and technological innovation elements, platforms, projects, and talent.

A combined 600 million yuan ($84.7 million) in provincial-level fiscal capital for scientific research has been delivered to Hong Kong and Macao, he said.

During the forum, the Chinese Academy of Sciences will deliver a report on the performance of the major scientific and technological infrastructure it has jointly built in Guangdong, said Ren Hai, director of the academy's Guangzhou branch.
