Serbian and Chinese carpet heritage weaving stronger cultural dialogue
An exhibition highlighting the carpet-making traditions of China and Serbia opened at the Beijing Overseas Cultural Exchange Center on Thursday, offering visitors a close look at the craftsmanship behind the two nations' intangible cultural heritage.
Weaving Rhymes of China and Serbia: Two Carpets in Harmony and Resonance was jointly presented by the Beijing Overseas Cultural Exchange Center, the Cultural Center of the Republic of Serbia in Beijing, and the Beijing Eight Imperial Handcrafts Museum.
The exhibition marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Serbia.
The showcase brings together Serbia's Pirot carpet weaving craft and China's Beijing palace carpet tradition. The two techniques were introduced through exhibits, technical demonstrations, and an in-depth dialogue between Soldat Tatjana, director of the Serbian cultural center, and Xue Jiangwenyan, an inheritor of palace carpet weaving.
