Shanghai Jiao Tong University co-hosts event focused on youth

Shanghai Jiao Tong University, in collaboration with Chinese social media platform Bilibili and local news portal ThePaper.cn, hosted a performance themed "Youthful Symphony: Journey to the Future" on Sunday, highlighting the young generation's passion for the motherland, their insights into technology, and cultural innovation capabilities.
In his opening remarks, Xi Lifeng, executive vice-president of the university, encouraged young people to be inheritors who seek their roots and draw inspiration from the deeds of their predecessors. He also urged them to be pioneers who dare to explore uncharted territories and make breakthroughs at critical junctures, and be dream pursuers with a global vision, integrating personal ideals with national needs.
The performance was structured into three chapters. The first chapter reflected on history, featuring recollections from war veterans, narratives by young journalists, and studies by young scholars, all aimed at continuing the spirit of pioneers and drawing strength for progress.
The second chapter focused on the present, showcasing the "great nation" series of reports by ThePaper.cn, which documents major contemporary themes like Chinese modernization. Also in this part, the story of three generations of faculty and students from the university working together over decades to protect Erhai Lake in Southwest China's Yunnan province, and the passionate account by young scientist Zhao Weishu, an associate researcher at the university's School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology, deciphering the life codes of the deep sea, resonated strongly with the audience.
The third chapter looked to the future, featuring lively interactions between those on the stage and the audience. The atmosphere was vibrant with continuous applause.
