Multiple cities across Guangdong province issued weather warnings and closure requirements on Tuesday in response to severe weather conditions.

The coastal city of Maoming issued a yellow warning signal (Level 3) for geological hazards and meteorological risks for the coming 24 hours.

A yellow warning indicates geological hazards, including flooding, mountain torrents, mudslides, and breaches of river and reservoir dikes, are at high risk, local authorities said, adding that relevant departments in the city should introduce concrete and effective measures to prevent possible disasters.

Geological hazards are often reported after typhoons have left or floodwaters have receded, authorities said.

The local meteorological department warned that storms would continue to hit the city in the following 24 hours.

Maoming's education department required all kindergartens, schools, colleges, and universities in the city's Maonan district and Binhai New Area to suspend classes due to the extreme weather.

Zhuhai's meteorological observatory issued a citywide rainstorm red warning signal.

The city's education bureau ordered all non-full-boarding daycare institutions, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools, vocational schools, higher education institutions, and training institutions to be closed.

In Zhongshan, the local water conservancy department issued a Level III emergency response for flood control (rainstorm prevention) as storms and gale winds continued to hit the city.

Zhongshan's education department has asked all schools and kindergartens in the city to suspend classes.
