China's anti-graft bodies sanction former nuclear power official

Gu Jun, former deputy Party secretary and general manager of China National Nuclear Corp, has been expelled from the Party for serious violations of discipline and law, China's top anti-graft authorities said on Saturday.

A statement from the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision said an investigation found that Gu had resisted organizational scrutiny and engaged in superstitious activities.

He violated the central Party leadership's eight-point decision on improving conduct by improperly accepting gifts and attending banquets and trips arranged by others, according to the statement.

Gu, who has been under investigation since January, also sought benefits for others in employee recruitment, breached integrity rules and engaged in improper sexual relationships in exchange for benefits, it said.

He also abused public power for personal gain, accepting large amounts of money and valuables and using his positions to help others secure project contracts, equipment procurement deals and payments, it said.

The statement said Gu had seriously violated the Party's political, organizational, integrity and life disciplines.

In accordance with relevant regulations, Gu was expelled from the Party, stripped of the benefits he had been entitled to, and had his illicit gains confiscated.

His case and related assets have been transferred to procuratorial authorities for review and prosecution, the statement said.

Gu, 63, is a native of Jiangsu province, and spent much of his career in the nuclear power sector. He previously served as a director and general manager of State Nuclear Power Technology Corp and as a director of the China Nuclear Engineering & Construction Group Corporation.

He served as a director, general manager and deputy Party chief of China National Nuclear Corp from 2018, retiring from the posts in 2024.
