Makena Mutwiri, founder of Bloom Kenya, a fashion brand in Nairobi, was recently excited to be back in China to explore new opportunities.

After joining the C Star program, a public welfare brand under the China Merchants Foundation, in 2024, she recognized China's vast potential for business and manufacturing, offering better quality and easier access to fabrics. Before C Star, she faced challenges in sourcing resources, but now, with direct supplier connections, she has access to more colors, fabrics, designs, and sizes.

"China is not just a market; it's a partner," says Mutwiri. Her experience with C Star transformed her approach, helping her expand her business.

She encourages future C Star participants to stay open-minded and explore more Chinese opportunities.
