New spokesman vows prompt release of defense-related info

Senior Colonel Jiang Bin, the new spokesman for China's Ministry of National Defense, made his debut on Thursday, releasing information on the nation's defense development and military diplomacy.

In a video posted on the ministry's social media account, Jiang said he was honored to take on the role.

"I will strive to carry forward the baton passed on by my predecessors, promptly releasing information on national defense and military development, and telling the story of the Chinese military in the new era," he said, adding that he aims to engage sincerely with journalists and respond earnestly to their concerns.

"I look forward to mutual understanding and support, allowing the world to understand a true, multidimensional and comprehensive Chinese military," he said.

Jiang, born in 1982 in Sichuan province, also serves as deputy head of the ministry's information office.

He was admitted to the former People's Liberation Army University of Foreign Languages in 1999 and graduated in 2003. He went on to hold various positions, including assistant translator, staff officer and director of the translation department at the Ministry of National Defense's Office for International Military Cooperation.

The ministry's website also shows that there are now two official spokesmen — Jiang and Zhang Xiaogang — indicating that Wu Qian has stepped down from the role.
