The Christie's auctions in Hong Kong will coincide with this year's Hong Kong Art Month, and "we hope to introduce to the global art community, the preference of Chinese collectors," said Jacky Ho, deputy head of the 20th and 21st Century Art Department at Christie's Asia Pacific.

"We are promoting the aesthetics and preference of Asian, and especially Chinese collectors, as we are promoting Chinese artists," he said at the Shanghai preview. "We have reached a time when you could even say an artist doesn't have sufficient international recognition if his/her creation doesn't find resonance in China and Asia".

Art collectors in China have become quite mature compared to 15 years ago, Ho said. While they are demonstrating diverse international perspectives for the art market, their distinctive aesthetics and preference are showing at the same time, which has impacted the art market in the region.
