China enhance crackdown and awareness on cults
China's police continue to crack down on religious cults and hold events to enhance the public's vigilance against cults in 2024, the Ministry of Public Security said.
Police across the country clamped down on institutions conducting illegal training under the pretext of "spiritual practice", "spiritual healing" and "unleashing potential", protecting the physical and mental health of people, as well as their property, the ministry said in a news release on Thursday.
They also carried out more than 56,000 awareness education events in villages, universities, elementary and high schools, residential communities, government departments and companies in 2024.
The ministry said police will continue to strictly prevent and combat cults and their activities.
