Summer night markets illuminate urban nightlife
As night falls and the city lights up, the Town Square in Deqing county, Zhejiang province, becomes a hub of activity—the summer night market draws a steady stream of visitors with local delicacies, agricultural products, and everyday necessities.
This summer, Deqing has been focusing on creating new consumer experiences with immersive and interactive night markets. In its ancient Xinshi town, a village karaoke competition is underway, while the summer night carnival at Shangzhu Mountain Fantasy Valley draws numerous visitors. Moganshan's Yujie Street also hosts a series of summer events.
In recent years, nighttime consumption in China has been on the rise. The China Urban Night Economy Vitality Index Report by Xinhuanet.com showed that the scale of China's night tourism market reached 1.57 trillion yuan in 2023, as cities around the country accelerate their "night walk" projects to attract tourists.
As the vibrant night markets in Deqing reflect the active consumption patterns and economic activities in the area, local power suppliers have ramped up efforts to support the smooth operation of the night markets.
"As the number of night market stalls increases, so does the electrical load. Given the recent high temperatures, we have increased infrared thermography inspections and night patrols to ensure thorough checks of power lines and equipment," said a staff member from the State Grid Deqing County Power Supply Co.
