Chinese New Year celebrations commence in London

Events in Greenwich prove a popular hit with visitors

People enjoyed in a festive atmosphere at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London on Saturday, marking the countdown to the Chinese Lunar New Year, which falls this coming weekend. [XING YI / CHINA DAILY]

Organized by the museum and other local community groups, the free activities proved extremely popular, with all tickets being booked out a week in advance. People queued up for over an hour to get wrist ribbons for the lion dance and workshops to make papercraft dragons – the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year is the Year of the Dragon.
