Ten CPV martyrs' remains have been identified

The identities of ten martyrs of the Chinese People's Volunteers whose remains have been returned to China have been identified, and their relatives have also been found, Li Guiguang, director of the Department of Commendation and Memorial Affairs of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, said on Friday.

The ministry carries out activities to search for relatives of martyrs by extracting DNA information from the remains of 913 martyrs' remains that have been returned during the past nine consecutive years, combined with clues such as seals in the relics returned. Authorities then look for family members, they then conducted a comparison of DNA information to confirm their identities, he said.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement, and the public is paying high attention to the handover and burial of the remains of the Chinese People's Volunteers martyrs in the Republic of Korea. The ministry is actively preparing and communicating with the ROK side to make arrangements for related work, Li said.

"The work of welcoming back and burying the remains of the martyrs of the Chinese People's Volunteers in the ROK is related to the national image, the national sentiment and the glory of the martyrs," he said.

For four consecutive years, a total of 324 remains have been welcomed back and buried with the highest regulation of etiquette to express the respect of all walks of life to the martyrs, he said.
