Senior sport official placed under investigation
Du Zhaocai, deputy director of the General Administration of Sport of China, was put under investigation and disciplinary review for suspected serious violations of law and discipline, the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Supervisory Commission said on Saturday.
Du, 63, also vice-president of the Chinese Football Association, is in charge of soccer-related work, including the sport's development and events. He failed to be reelected as the FIFA Council member last month.
He used to be a professional ice hockey player. After graduating from Shenyang Institute of Physical Education, Du served as a coach in the sports commission of Liaoning province.
Du's investigation came after the probe into several soccer officials recently.
Former vice-president of the Chinese Football Association Wang Dengfeng was arrested over suspected embezzlement and bribery in February and expelled from the Party last month.
