The China Atomic Energy Authority's third quarterly seminar on nuclear technology was held in Beijing on Wednesday.

More than 90 government officials, researchers and industry representatives took part in the event at the Center of Excellence on Nuclear Security in the southwestern suburbs of the capital.

The event's goal was to allow participants to contribute their ideas about how to make nuclear technology better serve the public as well as their visions for the sector's future development.

Attendees shared their views and discussed a wide range of topics, including the application of nuclear technology in the medical, industrial, agricultural and environmental sectors.

At the seminar, the organizers published a list of 10 major achievements China has made in nuclear technology over the years, such as the clinical use of the first domestically developed heavy-ion medical accelerator and the industrial application of electron beam technology in wastewater disposal.

Dong Baotong, deputy head of the China Atomic Energy Authority, said at the seminar that nuclear technology has been widely adopted in many industries and can play a more important role in them.

Dong said China must promote the use of nuclear technology in its socioeconomic development and help businesses in the industry become stronger and more competitive in order to strengthen the nation's overall capabilities.

He also urged industry players to expand their operations, place more resources on the research and development of core techniques, establish innovation mechanisms and optimize their management methods.
