Tangshan, in North China's Hebei province, has been removed from a list of national civilized cities by the Civilization Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
Tangshan has been honored as a civilized city three times, with the latest honor awarded in 2020, according to a report of China City News, a media administered by People's Daily, on Tuesday.
Cities are selected onto the list every three years.
The city saw an assault case that provoked public outrage on June 10 where four women were beaten by a group of men.
