Hebei cracks down on Tangshan crime
Places administered by Tangshan, Hebei province, have set up various channels for the public to report crimes in a citywide crackdown after several women were assaulted on Friday by a group of men at a restaurant.
The places include the Lubei district, where the assault happened, as well as Qianxi, Luannan and Laoting counties.
Top officials in Tangshan stressed that no crime report from the public will be missed and that the city has zero tolerance.
"We can't stop for a moment, can't be wrong for even one step and can't afford to miss a day," said an official in a group led by the city's Party chief, Wu Weidong, in the early hours of Wednesday on an inspection of the campaign's headquarters.
"The campaign will make solid and effective progress, with quick and thorough investigations," an official said.
At a conference on Tuesday night, officials said the campaign receives calls, letters and visits from the public around the clock and carries out a "one person, one solution" measure for handling reports.
"We will effectively solve prominent problems that people complain about, so that we can safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the people in accordance with the law," the official said.
Top officials at provincial level stressed the importance of innovation on social governance, saying that the crime prevention and control system should be improved, according to a report by Guangming Daily.
Top officials of Hebei said during a recent two-day plenary session that they will quickly and severely crack down on criminal activities that endanger people's safety and ensure people's sense of security, both in Tangshan and the whole province.
