Creative differences

New York-based freelance writer Sophie Kalkreuth studied in another high-profile building, while working toward a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from City University of Hong Kong. The course included intense weekends in the Studio Daniel Libeskind-designed Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre, on the northern edge of CityU's Kowloon Tong campus.

"Most of our work was done remotely, so when we gathered on campus, we had full day-plus-evening programs," Kalkreuth recalls. "I mostly remember being struck by how little natural light came into the building through those narrow, slit windows. I recall feeling a bit claustrophobic in the lecture theater."
