China has 340,000 nursing homes and 8.17 million beds to accommodate elderly people by September, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said on Friday.

From July to September, the ministry has strengthened the epidemic control measures in nursing facilities, updating guidelines in accordance with the change of the COVID-19 cases, said Jia Weizhou, spokesman for the ministry.

This year, the ministry will continue to carry out inspections in elder care services and hold a national competition for elderly care skills.
