This year's Beijing College Student Film Festival has set up a special section, cooperating with the State Taxation Administration, calling for micro films, short videos and scripts featuring the contributions tax revenue has made to realizing prosperity and improving livelihoods.

Xiao Xiangrong, executive vice-chairman of the organizing committee of the BCSFF and director of Beijing Normal University's school of arts and communication, said during the opening ceremony held on Wednesday that the organizers have received around 1,000 candidate works.

As part of the ongoing Beijing International Film festival, BCSFF has specially promoted films shot by, produced for and likely to be watched by college students since its first run in 1993.

Through Sept 30, the festival will screen a total of 34 films released since 2019 in over 40 universities nationwide, and will also hold academic seminars on film theories and practices.

Parallel sessions in Zhuhai in Guangdong province and Macao will discuss topics surrounding the outlook for the film industry around the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

For the first time, the film festival will have college students going to the countryside, screening films outdoors, and interpreting the beauty and cultural meanings of the works to rural primary and secondary school students, according to Xiao.
