BEIJING - Two representatives of Chinese veterans shared their experience of continuing doing their bit for the country after retirement at a Monday press conference.

Kong Jinzhu, a veteran with a 25-year service duration in the field of national defense technology, successfully developed the domestic server operating system (OS) Kylin after four years of hard work with his team. He retired and joined Kylinsoft in 2016.

"The self-developed Kylin OS has been applied to major aerospace projects such as China's space station and Mars exploration," said Kong at the press conference held by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Kong said his team has many veterans and CPC members who translate their caliber and fine conduct honed in the military to the motivation of making technological breakthroughs.

Also at the press conference were two primary-level officials working on veteran affairs who briefed about the services provided for the ex-servicemen.

China established the Ministry of Veteran Affairs in April 2018 to strengthen management and support for veterans.

The past three years saw substantial results in ensuring veterans' employment, pension, assistance, and accurate services, with many problems solved. These efforts won recognition from the group, said Li Xiangwen, deputy head of the veteran affairs bureau of Liaocheng city in East China's Shandong province.

There are yet still some shortcomings with the current veteran affairs work, and relevant services could further improve, Li noted.
