With the help of a gas-sniffing dog, workers can quickly find the exact location of a gas leak, according to Jilin Towngas Co in Jilin, Jilin province.
A black German shepherd became the first gas sniffer to work in China.
Natural gas is colorless and odorless, but detector dogs can sniff it out because they have a heightened sense of smell. They are trained to find the chemical tetrahydrothiophene, which is added to natural gas for its odor and serves as an alert for leaks.
With the dog's super sensitive nose, the point of the leak can be detected even 2 meters underground.
