Lockdown of the Guixi residential neighborhood in Shanghai's downtown Huangpu district will end as of 6 pm Sunday as the community will be removed from the country's list of medium-risk regions for the spread of COVID-19, the municipal government said on Sunday.

There are more than 1,000 residents in the neighborhood and the youngest is only 1-year-old, according to Huangpu district police. Community workers, healthcare workers and police officers helped with the daily living of the residents, especially the elderly and the disabled, during the 14-day quarantine.

A breakfast truck has been dispatched by local food enterprise Bright Food Group to deliver at least five options of hot breakfast sets to the residents since Jan 24, the first day when the community was categorized as a medium-risk area. Most of the food products were sold 20 percent off their market prices.

Guixi residential neighborhood comprises mainly old houses with insufficient bathroom and kitchen facilities. The healthcare workers there constantly reminded the residents to maintain social distancing with their neighbors during the lockdown and even arranged a timetable for different families to clean their spittoons.
