2 new virus cases in Beijing, 2nd mass testing underway in Daxing
China's capital, Beijing, reported two new local COVID-19 cases on Monday - both from the Ronghui residential community in southern Daxing district, where the recent cases were found in the city.
Pang Xinghuo, deputy head of the Beijing Center for Disease Control, said at a news conference on Tuesday that the two cases have received nucleic acid testing several times in the community, with all results previously showing as negative.
They two had coughing and sore throat symptoms on Sunday, so they were tested and the results were positive. On Monday, the two were taken to a designated hospital and confirmed as COVID-19 cases.
Han Xinxing, executive deputy head of Daxing district, said on Tuesday that the district has started the second round of mass testing for all residents in Daxing on Tuesday.
"The district has set 310 fixed spots for sample collection and mobile spots near subway stations and supermarkets to provide convenience for citizens to be tested," he said. "By 3 pm Tuesday, 696,400 samples have been collected."
