Eleme, Xinhua release report on young delivery riders


Nearly 12,000 college students have taken on part-time jobs as delivery riders since the COVID-19 outbreak, according to the latest report jointly released by online catering platform Eleme and Xinhua News Agency.
The report, which focuses on delivery workers born after 2000, pointed out that the number of riders registered at Eleme has doubled compared with the same period of last year.
The report stated that Chengdu, Sichuan province was home to the most number of college deliverymen, followed by Changsha, Hunan province, and Shanghai.
When asked about their reasons for becoming a delivery rider, over 70 percent of those from the post-00s generation cited the flexible working hours, while half of them said they love the feeling of shuttling through the city.
