Students from the Chinese mainland will be suspended from studying in Taiwan this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and cross-Straits relations, the Ministry of Education said on Thursday.
Mainland students who have been studying at Taiwan universities can continue their study on the island on a voluntary basis, according to the ministry's office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan affairs.
It is urgent to solve the issue where mainland students have been prevented from returning to study at universities in Taiwan and safeguard their legitimate rights and interests, the office said.
Mainland universities' policies on enrollment of Taiwan students will not change this year, and relevant information has been released online.
