Chinese huqin player Liu Xiang and young Chinese folk musical instrumentalists performed at the Tianqiao Performing Arts Center in Beijing on Sunday and will give another show at the National Library Arts Center in the capital on Monday.

Liu started to learn to play the huqin, a traditional Chinese stringed musical instrument, with his father, Liu Mingyuan, a huqin master. Liu Xian joined the China National Traditional Orchestra in 1987 and launched a huqin ensemble in 2010 with 22 young Chinese huqin players.

While touring worldwide, Liu Xiang is keen to preserve the tradition of the huqin by teaching young huqin players.

During the shows in Beijing, held by the China Coal Mine Art Troupe, the young musicians, including erhu player Fu Qiong, suona player Song Jing and percussionists Bai Minghui, Tian Wei and Zhang Anqi, performed traditional Chinese musical works.
