There were only 896 cultural centers, 55 libraries and 21 museums in 1949. But by 2018, the figures were up to 44,464,3,176 and 4,918, respectively.

The exhibition also shows models of different floats used during the National Day parades, with detailed descriptions.

Visitors can also see all the words and photos and hear the narration at the same time on mobile phones or laptops. The whole exhibition can be explored online with a 360-degree view. The online version, released on Sept 29, has map navigation, so audiences can choose their own tour routes. The online interactions with display screens also offer immersive experiences.

The narration is carefully curated. Yang Yu, head of the narration-development team, says many key quotes from the past 70 years are presented.

For example, founding father Mao Zedong asked the Chinese people to make things.

Yang quotes Mao as saying: "What can we make now? We can't make one car, one plane, one tank or even one tractor now."
