The city saw an escalation of violence over the past weekend as rioters slashed an officer in the neck with a box cutter and, for the first time, used a homemade explosive device in an attempt to attack a police vehicle.
Allan Zeman, chairman of the Hong Kong-based Lan Kwai Fong Group, spoke up to support the city's police force, while Grenville Cross, Hong Kong's former director of public prosecutions commented, "Everything possible must be done to deter such (disruptive) conduct. I believe in law and order."
