Slowdown in number of Beijing permanent residents without hukou

BEIJING - The number of Beijing's permanent residents without hukou, or household registration status, is seeing slower growth, according to a report published Wednesday.

Beijing's floating population is increasingly inclined to live in the capital city, according to a report released by the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences (BASS) and the Social Sciences Academic Press.

As China's economic growth enters an era of "new normal" and industries experience deep structural changes, Beijing's floating population appears to have "stopped floating," while more people tend to live for longer terms here, the report said.

"Among those who have bought houses in Beijing, 95.9 percent wish to stay in the capital for a long time," said BASS researcher Li Xiaozhuang.

The average growth rate in the number of Beijing's permanent population is not high at all compared with other cities around the country, the report added.
