Pork sausage 'curtain' in Sichuan piques curiosity online
Pork sausages hanging like a curtain on a balcony in Leshan, Sichuan province which attracted the attention of netizens have been moved and sold at a hotpot restaurant on Wednesday, according to a report on news website thecover.cn.
A family in Leshan received unwanted attention after a photo of the family hanging a large amount of preserved pork sausages over their balcony was posted online.
In the photo the second-floor apartment's balcony, measuring 12 meters long and 1.5 meters high, was fully covered in homemade sausages, according to a report by Red Star News.
From a distance the sausages, arranged in five layers on the balcony, looked like a thick, red curtain.
The photo immediately attracted netizens' attention. Some joked, saying "this is a big family that uses sausages as a window curtain", while others wondered if the family makes and sells sausages.
Though the homeowner, who runs a hotpot restaurant, was quoted by the report as saying the family likes eating sausages and the meat is not for sale, the sausages were seen at his restaurant on Wednesday.
It is a tradition for people in the provinces of Sichuan, Guangdong, Hubei and Hunan to make pork sausages ahead of Spring Festival and store them for the coming feast.
