Sichuan 'Village Gala' serves up local flavors and crafts
A vibrant cultural event kicked off on Friday in Xigeda village, Yanbian county, Sichuan province, bringing together ethnic performances, intangible cultural heritage crafts and local produce from across the region.
Themed "Taste of Yanbian, Sunny Xigeda", the grassroots event served as a demonstration and showcase for the 2026 National Autumn "Village Gala" program".
On the open-air stage, performers from 12 townships presented ethnic songs and dances, intangible cultural heritage displays and a stage play, telling vivid stories of local prosperity and showcasing Yanbian's progress in rural revitalization.
Beside the stage, a three-day intangible cultural heritage fair is underway. Visitors can try their hand at traditional crafts such as Lisu ethnic embroidery and papercutting, taste Yanbian beef and other intangible cultural heritage foods, and buy freshly picked avocados and star fruit, as well as local tea, mulberry snacks, roses and navel oranges.
A month-long Color Market, jointly organized by young entrepreneurs and villagers, offers specialty fruits, flower-and-fruit cakes, colorful titanium artworks and floral essential oils. With a new theme each week, there is always something new to discover.
A creative photography exhibition, also lasting a month, features three zones — a villagers' photo exhibition, a colorful titanium art gallery and an aesthetic farm — sharing heartwarming stories of how longtime residents and newcomers connect with the land.
